November’s here, and the time is near for....dreaming about following Dan and Chris south as they begin. I know our thoughts and prayers go with them for a successful voyage. I’m sure they’ll get to where they want to, I saw Dan paying close attention to Racin’ Dave’s dissertation on the mysteries and vagaries of the Global Positioning System. The biggest problem with the system is going below to check it while in rough seas offshore. Hmm, might be the reason I’ve been looking for to pick up a hand held model........ Many thanks to Dave and his insights.
And thanks to those hearty souls that came out to welcome the BOUNTY and VOYAGER to town. In a somewhat unsuccessful effort to remain anonymous in the crowd, my son Dan and daughter Mary joined with a friend from work on his boat, a flat, loud and VERY quick 20 foot Bayliner (yes, Mr. Vogel, I remember the phrase....). When we first got the BOUNTY in view, there was a single civilian vessel in company. I’m proud to say that our very own Russ Entmyer, aboard WEE SIX with Bill Bell of ISLAND TIME along, was the SOLE escort as the BOUNTY passed Paper Mill Point headed towards the Matthews Bridge. If you looked closely at the TV, or the pictures in the paper, you saw him.....
That’s all it takes, folks. Getting involved. There’s stuff happening all around within and without the club. Get involved and make sure the Burgee is flying. Speaking of getting involved, there’s an election coming. You get to decide who the elected Directors of your club will be. You have a very hard choice. All of the nominated folks are good people and more than willing to do a good job. It’s good to have folks willing to volunteer to help make sure the club serves to original purpose of the founding Charter members.
In a loose segway, it was recently brought to my attention that some (most?) of the membership have no idea what happens at Board meetings, or even why we need the folks that we do. The November program will be, to my knowledge, the first "open season" on Board members, current and past. Any question that anyone wishes to pose concerning the club and the business we’re having to conduct is fair game. And it can be directed to whichever of the fine volunteers (read: suckers) I can convince (coerce) to join in the round table discussion (melee). It should prove to be interesting, as well as instructive.
